Find your Ikigai - Your true Purpose

When asked what surprised you most about humanity the Dalai Lama answered: We sacrifice our health to make wealth and then we sacrifice our wealth to get back our health.

Maybe you’re young and not sure what you want to do or you’ve gone down your path and find yourself feeling unfulfilled.

Before I start this video I want to highlight that there isn’t one specific thing or path you should be going down, there is a possibility that you may feel you want to do this specific thing for several years, and then maybe you’ll change and want to do something else.

I don’t think life is one set path, you have to go through different paths to hone into what you could be doing with your life to make you feel fulfilled and happy.

The way I see it, we were born with a set of gifts and strengths and as you go through life you will pick up more skills, you are meant to use those skills and strengths to find what to do with your life.

We all want to be happy but we find ourselves questioning: should we focus more on making money? Or should we focus more on our passion?

Today I’m going to share with you how to find that answer with a proven formula that has been around for 1000s of years.

A Formula for Happiness. It is a Japanese concept called IKIGAI which translates to a reason for being

So let's get into it:

The Ikigai consists of 4 components you need to achieve to find your IKIGAI or your reason for being

The first component is

What you love?

  • Things that make us feel good, things that make us happy that get us to stop thinking and just be present at the moment. That's why people fall, involve with art, reading, and music.

  • You know it in your gut

What you’re good at

  • What do people come to you for advice?

  • This doesn’t mean you need to be good at it immediately, let's say for example you want to be a motivational speaker one time and after practicing you will be good at it.

What the world needs

  • This refers to the impact you will make on the world and that has a positive impact on the people around you

What you can be paid for

  • What have you been paid for before?

  • What do you want to get paid for?

  • Videos? Online courses? Books? Talks? Advice?

Once you've listed everything, Look at all your sections and find the commonality between all to figure out what is in the middle and that is your IKIGAI.

For some, it may take 30 mins to finish and others a little bit longer and that’s okay.

I used this concept months ago and it lead me to this exact point, Sharing information on these types of topics, on career, and becoming a coach.

I always knew it way back in my head but it took this exercise for me to map out and see that is it real and is my true Ikigai.

I feel the most happiness and fulfillment after speaking to clients and helping them with their careers and path to a better life.

Try it to see where it leads you and where you will be a year from now.
